Dawgs rally past Jackson
CCHS 72, JHS 70 (OT) It's not often that a game lives up to hype generated by the fans, but that is exactly what happened when the third-ranked Clarke County Bulldogs and the sixthranked Jackson Aggies met up Friday night in Jackson. The Aggies started the game on fire racing out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and extending the lead to 34-20 at intermission. Clarke County closed the gap to four points at 45-41 heading in to the fourth period and tied the game on two free throws to end regulation tied 61-61. The Bulldogs took advantage of Aggie foul trouble and a untimely ejection of one of Jackson's star players to pull ahead for a 72-70 win in overtime. "I thought we played good enough to beat Clarke County," Aggie coach Marcus Caster said. "We have to get more consistent officiating. I don't care if I get fined for saying that either. We have had seven technical fouls at home this year. That is more than we had during the last two years combined. Josh Ezell led the Aggies with 19 points. Roderick Washington added 13; Corey Besteda 11 and Gabriel Mass had 11 for Jackson. JHS 73, Vigor 64 Jackson rebounded with an 11- point win over the visiting Vigor Wolves Saturday night. It was the Aggies' second win of the season over the 6A Mobile team. The Aggies held a slim 28-27 lead at halftime before pulling away in the second half. B.J Brown was the leading scorer with 16 points. Besteda had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Mass chipped in with 13. This week the Aggies will host the annual Jackson Christmas Classic beginning Thursday, Dec. 20. Participating teams are Thomasville, Bahamas McIntosh, Jackson, C.R. Walker (Bahamas) and C.V. Bethel (Bahamas). The teams from the Bahamas arrive in Jackson Wednesday, Dec. 19 and anyone interested in helping out with food or entertainment should contact coach Caster at 251-463-2193.
"Anyone that wants to help show these guys a good time would be appreciated. I want to thank Mike Shows at the Downtown Inn for housing the kids again this season. He has done a lot to help out with this tournament," Caster said.
