JA 71, Sparta 35

In what Eagle coach Mike Garrett called his team's best performance of the year, Jackson routed Sparta by 36 points to advance to the championship game of the Southern Academy Tourney. The Lady Eagles led 46-15 at the half and never looked back with Evin Bowling leading the way with a whopping 43 points. Maggie Bowling and Kayla Lowery added eight points each, Laken Harvey had six and Amy Thomas chipped in with four to lead the Eagles on offense.

JA 46, Pickens 44

Laken Harvey drained a buzzer-beater to knock off Pickens Academy 46-44 and win the Southern Academy Tournament Saturday in Greensboro. After trailing 25-24 at intermission, the Lady Eagles tied the score 33-33 at the end of the third period. With the score knotted up 44-44 with 8.7 seconds left to go in regulation, Evin Bowling threw up a shot that just rimmed out. Harvey, a seventh-grader, was there for the rebound and got the shot off before the buzzer to win the game for the Lady Eagles. Evin Bowling was the leading scorer with 25 points. Lowery had nine; Maggie Bowling added six while Harvey had one basket, albeit a big one.

"We got the ball into Evin (Bowling) with 8.7 seconds left in the game tied up 44-44," coach Mike Garrett said.

"We were trying to get her a good look or get fouled. She put up a shot that rimmed out but Laken (Harvey) was there for the offensive rebound and the put back. It was a big shot, especially for a seventh-grader," he said.

"We probably played as good as we have all year. We forced 52 turnovers in two games. I am proud of the way we played."

Evin Bowling was the tournament's most valuable player and Kayla Lowery made the alltournament team.
