Long asks commission to help fund industrial prospect

      Jackson Mayor Richard Long asked the Clarke County Commission Monday to contribute approximately $250,000 in a project to bring a mill prospect (New Gas Concepts (NGC), Inc.) to the city's Industrial Park. The proposed plant would make wood pellets, which would be shipped overseas for fuel use.

Man found injured in street

      AJackson man was transported to a Mobile hospital via helicopter, Monday, after he was found lying in the street with a severe head injury. According to Police Chief Charles Burge, officers, along with emergency medical personnel, were dispatched to East Boyles Street around 5:13 p.m.

Greenville company to relocate gas lines for steel mill

      Bone Contracting of Greenville was awarded the bid for the relocation of a Clarke-Mobile Counties Gas District line relocation at the ThyssenKrupp steel mill plant site and the bridge crossing Highway 43 to the site in Calvert.

Thomasville to build spec building in south industrial park

      The Thomasville City Council approved Monday the conveyance of 10 acres in the South Industrial Park to the Industrial Development Board (IDB). The ordinance is part of the construction of a $1.4 million, 50,000 square foot spec building to attract economic development.

Frankville VFD gets new turnout gear

      On Dec. 6, six complete "turn-out gear" outfits were delivered to the Frankville Volunteer Fire Department. These are the very latest in personal firefighting equipment for firemen. The department received a "Safety and Operations" grant that totaled $23,794 which paid for the new gear.
