Chase ends with arrest of Florida residents
By Evan Carden SA Editor

A high-speed chase that began in McIntosh and ended near I-65 in Creola, resulted in the arrest of three Orlando, Fla. residents who are now incarcerated in the Washington County Jail.

According to police reports, McIntosh Police Officer Brad Singleton was on routine patrol around 1:37 p.m., Nov. 30, on U.S. Highway 43 in the north part of the town's jurisdiction when he noticed a vehicle headed south that appeared to have darker window tint than legally allowed. The officer, who was northbound, turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, which was occupied by Clarence Bryant III, 25, Curtis Jerome Franklin Jr., 20, and Dadrin D. Grissett, 28, all of Orlando, Fla.

According to statements released by Officer Singleton, Bryant, who was the driver of the vehicle, acted as if he was going to pull over at the Dollar General Store, then sped away. Singleton took chase. The suspects reportedly drove at high speeds, weaving in and out of traffic.

As the suspects neared the Mobile County line, Singleton notified Mt. Vernon and Creola police of the situation. He said when they made it to the ThyssenKrupp construction area, where the road narrows to one lane, the suspects continued to drive at a high rate of speed, at one point leaving the roadway and driving on the shoulder.

It was at that point that Singleton decided to abandon the chase. Mt. Vernon, Creola and Saraland police, as well as Alabama State Troopers, who responded to the call continued the chase. As the suspects neared the I-65 interchange, troopers and Saraland Police officers set up spike strips in an attempt to end the pursuit. All four tires were flattened on the suspects' vehicle, which was later discovered to have been a rental vehicle.

Singleton said he later discovered that the three men had traveled from Orlando to Atlanta, Ga., to a location in Mississippi before heading back south. Asearch of their vehicle revealed a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana, resulting in possession charges for all three occupants.

Bryant is charged with attempting to elude, illegal window tint, reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana, reckless driving and unauthorized use of a vehicle. His bond was set at $3,000.

Franklin and Grissett were both charged with possession of marijuana. Their bonds were set at $500 each.
