Christmas in the Pine City
The city of Jackson conducted its annual tree lighting ceremony, Friday, Nov. 30, to kick off the Christmas season in the Pine City. Mayor Richard Long and members of the city council delivered Christmas themed messages to the large crowd that gathered downtown for the event. Long gave the order to light the city's Christmas tree (top, left photo). A visit from ole' St. Nick was also on tap for the evening's events (top photo). The jolly elf made his rounds through the crowd, talking with the children and spreading Christmas cheer. He also stuck around for photos following the tree lighting ceremony. The Jackson High School Madrigals filled the night air with songs of the season. Bottom, left photo: Sunday, Dec. 2, the First United Methodist Church of Jackson hosted its annual step sing. A large crowd turned out for the event, which ended earlier than planned due to rainy weather. The Jackson Academy Choir was one of several groups performing. (SAphotos by Evan Carden)
