SWAIA supports CCC-NAACP upcoming banquet

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) announces their support of the Clarke County Chapter-National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP) seventh annual banquet. This event is Saturday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m. at the Fulton Head Start building in Fulton. Guest speaker will be Elder Jimmy Allen, pastor of the Church of God in Christ in Thomasville. The event is to promote unity, community awareness and diversity.

All are encouraged to attend. The cost of this banquet is $25 per person.

Coffeeville Masonic Lodge sponsors shrimp boil

The Coffeeville Masonic Lodge No. 122 is sponsoring a shrimp boil on Dec. 8 during the Christmas parade activities. Shrimp plates with all the trimmings will be $10. Raw shrimp will be available for $5 a pound and boiled shrimp for $10 a pound.

Come out for the parade and enjoy the activities of the day.

'Preacher Preach It' returns

'Preacher Preach It' will be performed Saturday, Dec. 8, 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance from the Promise Theatre Performing Arts Center box office located at the historic Locke Theatre downtown Jackson or at Doshias. Tickets are $15 at the door. For additional information call 246-7601.

Holiday Memorial Tree offered

at AseraCare Hospice

The community is invited to take part in decorating a Holiday Memorial Tree in the office of AseraCare Hospice, at 4115 College Avenue in the Dollar General Shopping Center near Wal-Mart.

Those wishing to participate may bring an ornament with the person's name on it they wish to remember. Paper ornaments will be supplied free of charge for participants to write the name of their loved one, along with a personal message.

The tree, donated by Quincey Baros of Southern Lawn and Garden, is on display through Christmas.

Volunteer softball coaches needed

Jackson Girls Youth Softball is seeking volunteers. All interested in coaching, becoming a board member or volunteering should plan on attending a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 11, 6:30 p.m. at the New Era Softball complex.

Harper Head Start announces recruitment

Applications are currently being accepted for the Harper Head Start mass recruitment. To apply, supply the following information to the Harper Head Start office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.: proof of income, birth certification, immunization record, proof of insurance (Medicaid, All Kids or Private) and Social Security cards of all household members.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Diabetes Classes Diabetes classes will be conducted each Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Center. For additional information contact Rene' Forman, RN BSN, 251-246-9021.

Collectors Club meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.

Some collections may include but are not limited to Indian artifacts, coins, postcards, old paper, books, bottles, advertising memorabilia, etc. For additional information contact Earl Handley at (251) 247-2438.

Coffeeville Big Buck Contest

November 17th marked the kick off of the Coffeeville Big Buck Contest. Participants may register to enter at Southern Linc, Coffeeville Texaco or Charles Body Shop, all in Coffeeville. The weigh-station and measuring location will be Guy's Taxidermy in Coffeeville.
