Area Obituaries Eunice Elizabeth Bedwell Eunice Elizabeth McIntyre Bedwell, 82, a native of Coffeeville and resident of Saraland, died Nov. 21, 2007 at her home. She was a retired director of the Coffeeville Nutrition Center and a member of the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville where she was involved in Sunday School and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde Bedwell; two sisters, Maudie Robinson and Ruby Myrick; and grandson, Mark Middleton. Survivors include two daughters, Donna (James) McCormick of Saraland and Kathy (Ronnie) Middleton of Citronelle; a sister, Mabel Bumpers of Coffeeville; three grandchildren, Tina Middleton Lee of Seminole, Amy Middleton of Citronelle and Jeremy McCormick of Chelsea; and great-grandchild, Brady McCormick of Chelsea. Funeral services were Nov. 24 at the First Baptist Church in Coffeeville with the Rev. William Allison officiating. Interment was in the Ulcanush Cemetery in Coffeeville with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Audie Mae Jenks Audie Mae Jenks, 75, a native and resident of Jackson, died Nov. 20, 2007 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. She was a work handler for Vanity Fair Mills and a member of Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church. Her survivors are a son, Ray Jenks of Grove Hill; a brother, Clifford Murphy of Jackson; five sisters, Allie Bryan and Louise Clolinger, both of Jackson, Margie Savage of Loxley, Nellie Blackwell of Chickasaw and Mary Bayles of Saraland; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 24 at Jones Chapel Protestant Church in Perry's Chapel with interment in the Jones Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers were David Batley, Tim Jacobs, Tony Cox, Paul Karr, Ray Davis, Clint O'Gwynn, Tody Windham and Tommy Windham. Honorary pallbearers were Bonnie Ray Overstreet, Joe Overstreet, Daryel Overstreet, Elwood Overstreet Jr., Sonny Creighton, Elma Averitt, James Gilchrist, Louie Overstreet, Fletcher Cox, Jimmy Gates and Ralph Overstreet. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed Juanita Spann McGowin Juanita Spann McGowin died at the age of 98 at Country Oaks Assisted Living in Thomasville. A native of Chapman and a resident of Jackson, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson. The valedictorian of the Class of 1926 at Butler County High School, she studied Latin for three years during high school. After completion at Drughn Business College in Montgomery she was employed as a bookkeeper for W.T. Smith Lumber Co. in Chapman until marrying Douglas McGowin in 1933. The couple moved to Jackson in 1941 and began McGowin Oil Company in 1948 and retired in 1989. Until a fall in 1996 confined her to her home, she enjoyed cruising with her best friend Virginia Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Douglas McGowin. Survivors include her son, John Douglas McGowin of Jackson, a daughter, Clementine Whitman of Little Rock, Ariz.; brother, E.M. Spann of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia S. Bedwell of Mobile and Gloria Spann of Georgiana; two grandchildren, Keiron McGowin of Trussville and Jason McGowin of Mobile; and one great-grandchild, Emma McGowin of Trussville. Funeral services were Nov. 24 at the First United Methodist Church of Jackson with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating and Joe Brown delivering the eulogy. Interment was in Pinecrest Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Pallbearers were Bill Outlaw, Jeff Fleming, Bob King, Keiron McGowin, Dick Brown and Dick Morrison. Rev. Daniel M. Berry Rev. Daniel M. Berry, 57, died unexpectedly Nov. 21, 2007 at his home in Schulenburg, Texas. The Rev. Berry was a former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson before moving to Schulenburg where he was pastor of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. A native of Tuscaloosa and longtime resident of Nashville, Tenn., he graduated from Peabody Demonstration School in Nashville, Davidson College and Princeton Theological Seminary. Although blind from birth, Berry was active in the ministry and enjoyed contacts on his computer that included counseling. He also enjoyed playing the piano. His first pastorate was 32 years ago in Meridian, Miss. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Lydia Jenkins Berry of Schulenburg and his father, Daniel M. Berry Jr. of Nashville. Graveside services were at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, Nashville, Nov. 26 with the Rev. Richard Rouquie, pastor of Hillwood Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Mark Tankersly of Gastonia, N.C. officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's or to a favorite charity. George Shannon McCrory George Shannon McCrory, a resident of Efland, N.C., died Nov. 15, 2007 at the age of 58. Services were conducted Nov. 18 at the Riverside Baptist Church in Graham, N.C. with the Rev. Bob Stephenson officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Minnie Mae Hare McCrory. Employed with Kenyon Concrete Pumping in Summerville, S.C., McCrory was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Christian Adults Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife, Deborah "Debbie" Lemoine McCrory of Efland; a daughter, Meghan (James) Jones of Summerville; sons, Douglas Martin (Marie) McCrory of Boiling Springs, S.C. and Joshua McCrory of Summerville; grandsons, Ethan Harold McCrory and Deacon Joshua McCrory; sisters, Donna Anderson of Jackson, Evonne Newton and Vangie Waltman, both of Coffeeville, Vickie Peters of Thomasville and Becky Evans of Arlington. John Lee Calhoun John Lee Calhoun, a resident of Grove Hill, died Nov. 23, 2007 at his residence at the age of 82. He was a member of the Full Gospel Apostolic Church of God in St. Stephens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bessie Cox Calhoun; three brother, Leroy, Willie Jr. and James Calhoun. He is survived by his wife, Willadean Smith Calhoun of Grove Hill; one son, Pervis (Emmie Jean) Calhoun of Grove Hill; one daughter, Mary (Bishop Theodore) Law of Grove Hill; two brothers, Collin (Delois) Calhoun of Grove Hill and Hollins (Claudine) Calhoun of Ozark; three sisters, Jimmie (Elma) King of Bitley, Mich., Delia Mae (R.J.) Bumpers of Jackson and Annie Parham of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 26 at the Full Gospel Apostolic Church of God with Bishop Theodore Law, pastor and officiating minister. Interment followed in the Walter Mission A.M.E. Zion Reginald Oneal Jackson Reginald Oneal Jackson, 19, a resident of Prichard, died Nov. 21, 2007 at the USA Medical Center in Mobile. His brother, Anthony Jackson, preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Veronica Fay Jackson of Prichard; his father, Edward Lee McKenzie of Jackson; a stepfather, Carl (Mary) Grayson of Prichard; a sister, Tametris (Chris) Jones of Prichard; one brother, Akeem Jackson of Prichard; grandparents, Titus (Betty) Jackson and Dave McKenzie, all of Jackson.
Services will be Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olive No. 1 Baptist Church in Rockville. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.
