Class of `57 donates to school improvement
 | | A portrait of the Leroy High School Class of 1957 was not located in the front hall with those of other former classes, but that is no longer the case. On Nov. 16, eight members of the Class of '57 gathered at the school to present and hang their class portrait and present principal Larry Massey with a donation for a decorative iron fence he plans to erect on the front lawn. The class had a reunion in May of this year together with the classes from 1955 - 1959. Powell Dean Waite, who was president of the 1957 class, reported that Leroy won both basketball and baseball county championships in '57. Joseph Palmer, whose portrait hangs in the entrance, was their principal for their 12 years of school. In recalling the discipline during those years, Sammy Garris said, "There wasn't a boy that went through this school that Mr. Palmer didn't whip." Several class members planned to attend Friday night's football game.
