The 10-0 Millry High School Wildcats came into the first round of the state playoffs after an emotional win over their arch rival Washington County and obviously had a lot of confidence. Not even an early slip up or being caught in a furious first half shoot out with the Billingsley High Bears was going to deny the Wildcats from getting to round two of the playoffs.

Fans from either side couldn't say they didn't get their money's worth in this exciting game.

Millry absorbed its own mistakes and the best Billingsley could offer to compile a 51-27 victory Nov. 9 at A.D. Britton Stadium on Wildcat Hill.

The Wildcats got the ball first, and Nehemiah Henry fumbled the kickoff but recovered on the Millry 20-yard line. On the next play Nigel Jones also fumbled, and the Bears got the ball at the Millry 24.

It didn't take Billingsley long to score. Quarterback Gerald Reese passed to Timothy Simon for 4 yards. Reese ran for 4 more, and Simon ran from the 16-yard line for the touchdown. The point-after kick by Preston Walton was also good, and with 10:23 still left in the first quarter, the Bears led by 7.

Millry began its next drive at its 46, thanks to a great run by Jones. James Land ran to the Billingsley 48, and a pass from quarterback Dylan Whitsett to Jones moved the ball to the 38. Two plays later, the Bears were penalized for a face mask violation, and the ball was set at the Billingsley 27.

Apass to Jones reached the 7- yard line. Two plays later, Jones took a direct snap and ran in for the TD from the 6.

The point-after kick by Jordan Hall was good, and with 7:08 left in the first, the game was tied 7-7.

The Bears reached their own 43 on the kickoff. Reese passed to Christopher Kent to move into Wildcat territory at the 33. Reese ran for 4 more yards then threw to Kent to reach the 15.

Three plays later, a pass to Raphael Brooks moved the ball to the 2-yard line.

Kendrick Hopson ran it in from there for the TD. The point-after kick was good, and the Bears led 14-7.

The Wildcats began their next long drive on their own 25. James Land reached the Millry 40 in two plays. Quintin Carpenter gained 2 more yards, and caught a pass to move the ball to the 50.

Runs by Land and Jones moved the Wildcats to the Bear 25. Apass to Henry reached the 17, and Land gained 6 more yards.

Henry reached the 10, but a third down catch by Henry could only get as far as the 7, so Hall kicked a field goal.

With 8:30 left in the second quarter, Billingsley led 14-10.

The Bears were hit with a holding penalty on the kickoff and had to start at their own 12. Robert Speer made up ground with a great run to the Bear 42. Two plays later, Timothy Simon would reach the Billingsley 48, but an illegal block-in-the back penalty moved the Bears back to the 27. Two plays later, the Bears had to punt, and the Wildcats had the ball on their 40.

Two plays later, Whitsett hit Land for a pass to the Bear 27. Another pass to Jones reached the 7. Jones scored again on another direct snap with 5:17 left in the first half. Hall's point-after kick was good, and Millry led 17-14.

The Bears had problems on their next drive. On first down, there was an illegal procedure penalty. On the next play, Chris Cherry caught Kendrick Hobson in the backfield.

On the next play, Elliot Brown shocked the Bears by intercepting a Reese pass and running it in for the touchdown.

The point-after kick by Hall was no good, and with 4:16 left in the first half, Millry led 23-14.

Penalties hurt Millry on the next Billingsley drive. Aunsportsmanlike conduct penalty was placed on the kickoff, however Quinton Land stopped Bryant Reese's runback at the 34.

Gang tackling halted Timothy Simon on first down. A pass to Kent was stopped behind the line by Cherry on the Bear 30.

On fourth down, Wildcat Head Coach Teddy Taylor was hit with a penalty for complaining a little too much for the referee's taste. The ball was moved to the Billingsley 45.

Two plays later, Gerald Reese ran to the Millry 45, and on the next play, Simon broke it for a run all-the-way to the goal line.

A two-point conversion failed, and Millry still led 23-20.

The Bears gave the Wildcats the gift of a face mask personal foul to begin the next drive. Beginning on the Millry 44, a pass to Jones only gained 2 yards, and an illegal procedure penalty moved Millry back to the 42. No problem, Whitsett hit Henry for a long TD pass with 1:08 left in the second quarter.

The point-after kick was good, and Millry led 30-20.

A good Wildcat special teams effort led by Grant Caten held Bryant Reese to his own 20. The Bears could only reach their own 25 before time ran out on the first half.

Billingsley got the ball back first in the third quarter, but they seemed a bit shaky. Robert Speer made the mistake of going out-ofbounds at his 17 on the kickoff. The Bears almost lost the ball with a fumble on second down.

Despite making a first down, Gerald Reese was sacked by Colby Myers, and the Bears could only go as far as their 39.

After the punt, Millry got the ball on their 26, but the Bear defense held them to three downsand out.

Billingsley began their next successful drive on their 36. Despite Myers and a host of Wildcats sacking Reese on first down, Reese hit Brooks with a pass to reach the Bear 45. Jamar Hobson moved the ball to the 50 in two plays, and Simon carried Wildcat tacklers with him to the Millry 28.

Simon gained 13 more tough yards, and Hopson ran it in from the 15 for the score. The pointafter kick by Walton was good, and with 3:44 left in the third, Millry's lead was cut to 30-27.

However, it didn't take the Wildcats long to respond. Hard running by Jones brought the kickoff to the Millry 37. James Land reached the Billingsley 36 in two plays, and a pass to Jones moved the ball to the 32. Jones scored the TD on the next play with 1:33 left in the third.

The point-after kick was good, and Millry led 37-27.

The next Bear drive ended as the fourth quarter began when Land picked up a fumble by Jamar Hopson. But the Billingsley defense stiffened, and the Wildcats had to punt.

The Bears then went three downs-and-out, and a bad punt gave Millry the ball on their 33. Two plays later, Land ran to the 38, and a pass to Carpenter moved the ball to the Bear 12.

Two plays later, Jones ran to the 5, but an illegal shift penalty moved the ball back to the 17.

Jones passed to Colby Myers for the TD on the next play with 6:54 left in the game. The pointafter kick was good, and Millry led 44-27.

Billingsley was again held to four downs, and the Wildcats had the ball on the 50.

The next Millry drive was all Jones. In seven plays he ran time off the clock and scored a touchdown from the 1-yard line.

The point-after kick was again good, and with only 1:16 in the game, the final score would be 51- 27 in favor of the Wildcats. Billingsley could only muster a few plays before time ran out.
