Fight between brothers leads to arrest of one

A fight between two Jackson brothers turned bloody and led to the arrest of one of the men.

According to Jackson Police Chief Charles Burge, Marcus Earl Belton was arrested and charged with second degree assault/domestic violence following an altercation with his brother, Maurice C. Belton, 38, around 8 p.m., Nov. 9.

Burge said dispatch received a call about gunshots being fired in the 100 block of High Street. When officers Arvis Slack and Rudy O'Neal arrived in the area, they found Marcus Belton walking down the street. "He appeared to have been in an altercation," said the Chief.

The officers entered the residence of Maurice Belton, who had blood on his face and one eye swollen shut. "The two men and apparently been in an altercation stemming from an argument involving a 4-year-old child," added Burge.

Marcus Belton was arrested and transported to the Clarke County Jail.

Auto/residential

burglaries reported

An unlawful entry into an automobile was reported to police in the 200 block of Forest Avenue around 6 p.m., Nov. 9.

According to reports, $500 in cash and a checkbook were taken from the vehicle. Officers Sam Aikens and Norman "Buzzy" Jordan took the report.

The next day, the same officers responded to the report of a burglary in the 500 block of East Pearl Street. Chief Burge said the home's occupant had been out of town for two weeks and discovered the burglary upon returning. Inside she found the checkbook that had been reported stolen from the vehicle on Forest Avenue the previous day.

According to the police report, a witness stated a person was seen entering the mobile home before the occupant returned. Burge said a suspect has been named and investigation into both incidents continues. Empty apartments haven for

drug activities

A woman suspected of smoking crack cocaine in an empty apartment at the Grove Apartments complex, was arrested by Sgt. Josh Garrett, Nov. 11.

According to police reports, Garrett was on foot patrol in the apartment complex around 9:36 p.m., when he noticed the rear door of apartment C-3 damaged. He and Clarke County Deputy Steve Carlisle entered the unoccupied apartment and heard a noise from the upstairs area.

The officers proceeded upstairs and found Aja Howell, 29, of St. Stephens in the front bedroom. A search of her person revealed two pipes believed to be used for smoking crack cocaine inside one of her pockets.

Howell was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into the Clarke County Jail.

Woman charged with

shoplifting at Wal-Mart

A woman was arrested around 10:30, Friday, Nov. 9, after she was accused of attempting to steal six cases of beer from the Jackson Wal-Mart store.

According to Jackson Police reports, Shirley G. Morris, 52, of Jackson was apprehended and detained by store employees.

Officers Jordan and Aikens were the arresting officers. Morris was charged with shoplifting and booked into the Clarke County Jail.

One injured in crash

Marcus Uriah Taylor, 36, of Jackson was injured around 12 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, when his 1999 Ford left the road near where the county roads 2 and 15 split and struck a utility pole.

Officer Ben Marshall was patrolling in the area and witnessed the crash. Taylor suffered what appeared to be non-lifethreatening injuries. He was transported to Jackson Medical Center for treatment.

Taylor faces charges of driving without a license and reckless driving.
