The Leroy Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) has busy two weeks responding to a number of automobile crashes and assisting with a fire call.

It all began Friday, Nov. 2, when an automobile crash occurred during the Leroy High School football game on the southbound side of U.S. Highway 43 in front of the north entrance to the school. Several LVFD members responded and assisted Washington County deputies with traffic control.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, around 11 a.m., the department responded to a call on Highway 43 just south of the Tombigbee River bridge, where an automobile had overturned in the median. There were no injuries reported. The driver of the vehicle was Walter J. Bradley. Jackson Police and Washington County deputies also responded.

Friday, Nov. 9, shortly before 2 p.m., a wreck was reported just north of Southwest Bank on Highway 43. The driver, whose name was unavailable by press time, reported having been run off the road by another vehicle which fled the scene. No injuries were reported. LVFD members assisted Washington County deputies with traffic control.

The LVFD answered another motor vehicle crash Nov. 10 on private property, bringing their extrication and rescue truck and the pumper truck. There was one injury and the person was transported to Jackson Medical Center by ambulance.

A mobile home fire in Wagarville had the LVFD assisting the Wagarville Fire Department on Nov. 11. The trailer was totally engulfed when Wagarville arrived. Leroy firefighters helped keep the fire from spreading and becoming a woods fire.
