Area law agencies report drug arrests Several drug arrests were reported by various local law enforcement agencies during the past week. McIntosh Police Officer Brad Singleton arrested Edward Lewis Jackson, 52, of Leroy and Terry Roderick Barnes, 44, of Jackson, Nov. 3, after stopping them for reckless driving on U.S. Highway 43, near the McIntosh Town Hall. Singleton said the traffic stop took place between 10 and 11 p.m., at which time he noticed that Jackson, who was the driver, and Barnes both appeared to be heavily intoxicated. In Jackson's possession he found what appeared to be approximately $40 worth of crack cocaine and a pipe used for smoking the illegal drug. A search of Barnes produced a small amount of marijuana. Both men were found to be in possession of alcohol. Jackson was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of the prohibition law and reckless driving. Barnes was charged with possession of marijuana and violation of the prohibition law. Bond was set at $750. While working for Chatom Police Tuesday, Nov. 5, Singleton reported the arrest of Jason Beech, 18, of Tibbie, following a traffic stop around 6:26 p.m. During a search of Beech, Officer Singleton found several Subuxone pills, for which Beech could not produce a valid prescription. He was booked into the Washington County Jail and charged with illegal possession of prescription pills. The First Judicial Drug Task Force reported the arrests of Curtis Jamar Hunter, Darrick Jones and Elliot Robert, all of Mt. Vernon, Oct. 30. All three were charged with possession of a controlled substance, following a traffic stop by Task Force One Agent Blane Barnett, with the assistance of McIntosh Police Cpl. Rico House and Officer Brad Singleton. Bond was set at $7,500 each. Barnett said he observed two of the passengers drinking what appeared to be alcohol while they were traveling on U.S. 43, which is a violation of Alabama's open container law. He radioed ahead and asked for assistance from McIntosh units, who stopped the vehicle, driven by Jones, on Washington Avenue. While patting down the suspects, Barnett said a small amount of marijuana was found in Hunter's possession. "At the time I thought Elliot was acting rather nervous and suspiciously," added Agent Barnett. "We went to the station and reviewed the video of the stop and saw that one of the subjects had dropped a small container on the ground and Elliot had kicked it underneath the vehicle. The officers returned to the scene and found the container, which contained what appeared to be several grams of powder and crack cocaine. All three subjects were placed under arrest and booked into the Washington County Jail.
