Local volunteers participate in Operation Christmas Child

Local volunteers are collecting simple shoe box gifts personally packed by children, families and individuals here in Southwest Alabama. From Southwest Alabama, the shoe box gifts will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary- sea containers, trucks, buses, trains, airplanes, helicopters, boats, camels, even dog sleds- to reach suffering children around the world.

"Operation Christmas Child allows our community to contribute to putting a smile on a child's face through a simple gift-filled shoe box," said Deborah Harvell, relay center coordinator. "Empower yourself and fill a shoe box for a child!"

Local collection sites include Millry Baptist Church, 70 Fifth Ave., Millry, AL 36558, (251) 846-2263

Malcolm Baptist Church, 200 Red Bud Road, Malcolm, AL 35665, (251) 829-9164

Clarke Baptist Association, 16183 Highway 43, Grove Hill, AL 36451, (251) 275-3065

Southern Pine Electric, 3943 Bowden St, Frisco City, 36445, (251) 867-5414

Southern Pine Electric will also be collecting boxes at their Evergreen, Atmore and Brewton locations.
