JMS PTO meets Tuesday

The Jackson Middle School PTO will meet Tuesday, Nov. 27, 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Door prizes will be given away. Special feature will be the Jackson Middle School Choir under the direction of Mrs. Elizabeth Martin-Callahan.All parents, relatives and friends of JMS students are invited to attend said Jessie Taylor, principal and Harriette Douglas, PTO president.

CCERA monthly meeting

The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11:45 a.m. at the New Faith Baptist Church in Coffeeville. The program will be legislative/state office. Hostesses will be Faye Cotton, Janice Cox, Kathleen Dunagan, Grace Dunigan and Lummie Dunigan.

The association thanks the following sponsors for contributing door prizes at the Oct. 18 meeting: New Era, Boise Cascade, State Farm/John Brown, Wal-Mart and Jackson Steakhouse.

Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival scheduled

The 24th year presentation of the arts and crafts festival, sponsored by the Peterman Historical Society, will be Saturday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in downtown Peterman. There will be more than 100 booths with wooden items, furniture, Christmas decorations, flowers, art, paintings, knives, clothing, embroidering on the spot, purses, T-shirts, cookbooks, garden ornaments and more.

There will be entertainment and a variety of food throughout the day. Visitors are encouraged to visit the depot and feast on hot cocoa, coffee, home baked goodies and view the vintage photos and memorabilia.

SWAIA meets Nov. 20

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting and community information forum will be Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse.

Focus of the evening will be two-part. First the nuts and bolts of establishing a community (countywide) Parents, Teachers and Students Association in Clarke, Washington and/or other interested surrounding counties. An organization of this type will bring to the forefront educational issues that are important to the entire community, such as full funding for education, child-related programs, quality teachers and the capability for schools to thrive. A copy of parent's rights under the No Child Left Behind Act will be made available to all participants in attendance.

The second part of the evening will include information regarding the annual enrollment and/or plan changes in the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Medicare Part D for senior citizens and/or individuals under 65 who are covered under Medicare disability. The enrollment period is Nov. 15 - Dec.31 for qualified individuals.

Annual Woman's Club fund raiser is Nov. 13

Chicken and dressing casserole, sweet potato soufflé, string beans, cranberry sauce along with rolls, pound cake and iced tea will be offered by the Woman's Club Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the First United Methodist Church. Tickets are available prior to the dinner from any club member, but will not be available at the door. Plates may be picked up at the church from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Baked items will be available during the 11-12:30 period.

'Dress & Feed the Needy' campaign at Downtown Inn Hotel

Clothes, shoes and nonperishable foods will be collected at the Downtown Inn Hotel Saturday, Nov. 24, 8 a.m. - 12 noon.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Diabetes Classes

Diabetes classes will be conducted each Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Medical Center. For additional information contact Rene' Forman, RN BSN, 251-246-9021.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.

Some collections may include but are not limited to Indian artifacts, coins, postcards, old paper, books, bottles, advertising memorabilia, etc. For additional information contact Earl Handley at (251) 247-2438.

Eighth Annual Pioneer Day

scheduled for Nov. 10

The Clarke County Museum's Eighth Annual Pioneer Day is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill.

Among the featured demonstrations are rope making, shingle splitting, candle dipping, flintknapping, corn shelling, chair caning, campfire cooking, cross-cut sawing, rug hooking, quilting, clothes washing and butter churning.

The restored Mathews Cabin will be open for visitors and costumed re-enactors will be on hand to greet guests. Creek Indian Blue Heron will set up his 1800s hunting camp and Creek War soldiers will host a frontier encampment.

There will be live music and storytelling throughout the day. Concessions will be available.

Benefit Golf Tournament
