The Jackson Academy Eagles volleyball team finished third in Class A in the AISA state volleyball tournament Saturday Oct. 27 in Montgomery.

The Eagles started the tournament off strong with a win over Sumter Academy 25-17, 25-8 to advance to the second round. Against Sumter, Evin Bowling had 6 kills and Kayla Lowery added 5 kills.

In the second round, the Eagles faced-off with rival Clarke Prep. The Gators, who finished as state champions, took the first match 15-25 with the Eagles bouncing back with a 25-12 win in the second match. CPS took the rubber match and the game 15-8. Against Clarke Prep, the Eagles' Evin Bowling led the way with 4 kills. Amy Thomas had 3 kills. Sydney Thomas had 4 aces and 3 digs and Maggie Bowling had 3 kills.

JA faced-off with Sumter again in an elimination game and the Eagles fell 21-25 and 17-25 to take third in the tournament. Evin Bowling had 2 aces and 5 kills during the game and was named to the All- Tournament team following the day's action.

Jackson finished the season with a 25-7 record under new Coach Christy Lowery.

"We played better than I expected us to play this year with a coaching transition. Overall we had a very good year. I am disappointed with the way we played in the state tournament but I think our future is bright. We will be losing two seniors (Evin Bowling and Amy Thomas). Those two gave us a lot of leadership throughout the year. They will be missed," Coach Lowery said.
