Leroy adds to trophy case with 47-20 win
Bears down Bayside 47-20 to earn 2A Region 1 Championship

      The Leroy Bears won a second straight region championship Friday night at Palmer Stadium with a 47-20 romp over Bayside Academy. Leroy (7-1, 6-0) out gained Bayside 331-33 in the first half as the Bears built a 28-0 lead after only one quarter of play.

Washington County routs Central-Hayneville 49-8

      Washington County rolled to a 49-8 win over the Lions of Central-Hayneville on the legs of sophomore Lavance Williams and a solid defensive effort. Williams rushed for 215 yards and three touchdowns and the Bulldog D collected three interceptions in the dominating win.

      The Jackson Academy Eagles' football team traveled to Marengo Academy in Linden Oct. 19 with the hope of shaking off a crushing 84-0 defeat at Southern Academy the week before. The Longhorns offered little comfort as the game was pretty much over before it started.

Bears advance to sub-state

      The Leroy Bears advanced to the sub-state pairing this week by defeating Samson and Houston Academy before falling to Bayside Academy in the championship game Oct. 20 in Dothan. LHS opened up with Samson and started off slow before winning 16- 25, 25-23, 25-12 and 26- 24.
