UM guitar ensemble presents concert Nov. 13 The University of Mobile guitar ensemble will present "An Evening of Guitar Music" on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. at the West Regional Public Library, 5555 Grelot Road in Mobile. The ensemble will perform pieces together as well as solos from each guitarist. The ensemble is under the direction of Mark Habib, instructor in applied music. Students performing in the ensemble are Jason Givens, Zach Adamson, Brandon Baker, Andrea Langley and Dave Denton. Admission is free. For more information, call the Center for Performing Arts at 251-442- 2420. The guitar ensemble is an acoustic ensemble whose members perform classic, traditional and contemporary pieces. Emphasis is placed on technical excellence and musicality within the ensemble. The group presents an annual concert on campus and performs in the university's Center for Performing Arts' recital hour. Every year, ensemble members have the opportunity to attend a Guitar Master Class taught by professional guitarists. Past instructors included world renowned artists Carlos Bonell and Eliot Fisk. Nearly 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled at the University of Mobile, a private Christian university affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention. The Center for Performing Arts is under the direction of Roger Breland, a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and founder/director for 31 years of the internationally acclaimed contemporary Christian group Truth.
