Beach ceremony unites Savage, Dumas

Robin Dumas and John Lee Savage III, both of Wilmer, exchanged vows Oct. 6, 2007 at 5:30 in the afternoon at the Phoenix VII in Orange Beach. The beach ceremony was officiated by Marvin Newman.

Parents of the bridal couple are Shirley and Ronald Dumas of Wilmer; Terri Long and John Lee Savage Jr, both of Jackson.

Tiki torches, a fern path with lilac roses and lilac rose petals leading to a wedding arch with lilac roses, white lilies and tepee greenery, provided the setting for the ceremony.

A variety of music was provided including "First Dance Song I Do" by Paul Brandt, "The Wedding Song", played on the saxophone, for the seating of the guests; "Canon in D" as the parents were seated; "From this Moment On" for the processional and the traditional "Bridal March", both played on the saxophone.

The musician performing on the saxophone was Chaz Singleterry. DJ Brian Roberts provided the music at the reception.

The bridal gown was styled with a white satin A-line halter with a split front. It was laced up the back and accented with beaded lace and a chapel length train. Her bouquet included eight hand tied lavender roses and six white lilies.

Brandi Singleterry was the matron of honor. Josie Smith, sister of the bride, Heather Vella and Haley Bennett were the bridesmaids.

Wearing knee-length halter dresses of lilac satin, the attendants carried bouquets which included flowers similar to the bride's for the matron of honor and nine hand tied white lilies for the bridesmaids.

Ashley Smith, the bride's niece, was the flowergirl. She wore a white organza dress with lilac sash and halo. She carried a white and lilac basket filled with lilac rose petals.

The groom's father served as best man for his son. Groomsmen were Scott Bennett, Christopher Long, brother of the groom and Trey Graham, stepbrother of the groom. Ringbearer was J.L. Smith, nephew of the bride.

Following the ceremony, Rachel Horton and Haley Horton distributed painted and decorated paintbrushes for the guests to brush the sand off their feet.

Reception

A buffet was served pool side at the Phoenix VII including chicken fingers, boiled shrimp, crab cakes, fruit, pigin blankets and crab dip with assorted crackers and punch. A seashell theme with sand-filled vases with white pillar candles and seashells as centerpieces completed the setting.

The wedding cake was of three tiers with buttercream icing and edible seashells. The groom's chocolate cake was two-tiered decorated with grapes and starfish.

The couple set a destination of Gatlinburg, Tenn. for a honeymoon. They are making their home in Wilmer.

Bridal Shower

The ladies of Peniel Baptist Church conducted a bridal shower Sept. 30 at the church.

Special guests included, Mrs. Joe Long, mother of the groom and Mrs. Ronald Dumas, mother of the bride; and Mrs. Earl McLendon and Mrs. John Lee Savage Sr., both grandmothers of the groom of Jackson.

Two centerpieces of lilac and white roses with baby's breath and ferns decorated the church hall. Guests were served a layered cake, toasted pecans, mints and punch.

The bride was presented a variety of gifts.

After Rehearsal Dinner

Mr. and Mrs. John Lee Savage Jr. hosted an after rehearsal dinner, Oct. 5, at the Phoenix VII in Orange Beach.

Special guests included Mrs. Joe Long, mother of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Dumas, parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Earl McLendon and Mrs. John Lee Savage Sr., grandparents of the groom.

Round tables were covered with white linen cloths and lavender ribbons. Hurricane lanterns were filled with sand and shells and Tiki torches completed the beach theme.

Guests were served hamburgers, hotdogs, sausage, baked beans, potato salad, cookies and cheesecake.

The bride and groom chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.

Groom's Brunch

The residence of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. McCorquodale III on Ono Island was the setting of a groom's brunch on Oct. 6.

Mrs. Joe Long, Mrs. Ronald Dumas, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl McLendon were the special guests.

A beach motif was used in decorating.

Guests were served sausage and egg casserole, Natchez grits, asparagus roll ups, pigin blankets, fruit, assorted breads, muffins, cakes and sweets.

Approximately 40 people were in attendance with special gifts given to the honorees by the hosts.

Bridesmaids' Luncheon

A menu of banana stuffed French toast, eggs benedict, eggs orleans and seafood omelet was served Oct. 6 at the Bayside Grill in Orange Beach.

Special guests included the Mrs. Ronald Dumas, Mrs. John Lee Savage Jr., stepmother of the groom, Mrs. John Lee Savage Sr., Connie Benmark, aunt of the bride and Crystal Ebaugh, cousin of the bride, both of Maryland.

Hostess for the occasion was Mrs. John Lee Savage Sr.

The couple received special gifts from the hostess.
