Alabama Forest Owners' Association donates to Grove Hill Public Library

The Grove Hill Public Library is the recipient of the book: Owning and Managing Forests by Thom J. McEvoy. The book was donated by the Alabama Forest Owners' Association Educational Fund through a grant from the Alabama Forests Forever Foundation in an attempt to provide sound forest management information to current and future landowners in Clarke County.

Owning and Managing Forests is an accessible overview of the privileges, rights and obligations that accompany forest ownership and a guidebook to help active forest owners and managers use laws to their advantage and avoid the pitfalls of expensive and exhausting litigation.

The book includes chapters on the rights of private property, acquiring and owning forest lands, surveys and boundaries, managing and using forest land, forest-management contracts, ethics in forestry practice, forest taxation, planning for woodlands in estates and dispute settlements.

It is a clear and concise description of often confusing concepts and difficult subjects and addresses issues in a competent yet conversational tone. Anyone involved with owning or managing forestland will find the book an essential guide and reference.

Author Thom J. McEvoy is associate professor and extension forester at the University of Vermont. He is also the author of Positive Impact Forestry and a regular contributor of how-to articles in several forestry and forest products magazines.

The Alabama Forest Owners' Association (AFOA) is a nonprofit association dedicated to providing management and ownership assistance to current and future owners of the 23 million acres of forested land in Alabama.
