The Millry Wildcats came back from a 14-3 deficit to beat McIntosh in a key region game Friday night on Wildcat Hill.

Both teams struggled early on offense in the early going until Millry's Jordan Hall booted a 23-yard field goal with 2:18 left in the first quarter to put the Wildcats up 3-0.

The Demons took over on their own 21-yard line and fumbled the ball on first down to give the ball back to the Wildcats in great field position. But that is when things got interesting.

Josh Nichols picked off a Dylan Whittsett pass on first down and took it 82 yards to pay dirt for a McIntosh score. The two-point conversion failed but the Demons led 6-3 late in the first.

After a stop by the Demon defense, their offense took back over with under eight minutes remaining in the half. McIntosh ignited the passing game with Michael Bolton connecting with Quentin Echols several times before running back Anthony Barnes powered his way into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown run with 4:21 left in the half to up the Demon lead to 12-3. Barnes found Echols again on the two-point try and the score was 14-3 at the half.

Turnovers, penalties and strong running by Millry's Nigel Jones were the undoing of the Demons in the second half.

The Wildcats started on offense in the second half and McIntosh quickly forced another interception with 10:00 left in the third quarter. But Barnes fumbled on first down to give the ball back to the Wildcats with 9:58 on the clock.

Millry was held to another three-and-out on the ensuing possession and had to give the ball back to McIntosh.

After a big run by the Demons' Cortez Thomas, the Wildcats forced another fumble and recovered it at the Demon 30-yard line with 2:35 left in the third. This time the Wildcats capitalized. On first down, Nigel Jones broke loss for a 24-yard run to the Demon 6. Jones punched it in a few minutes later on a 1- yard run to cut the lead to 14- 9 with 1:49 to go in the third. The two-point try was not successful.

The Wildcat defense forced a stop to give the offense the ball back with under 10 minutes to go in the game. Millry drove the ball to the 4-yard line before the Demon defense stood tall and forced a fumble that was recovered by Vincent Lewis with 6:15 to go in the game. The fumble appeared to do the Wildcats in but the Millry defense again forced a three-and-out to give the ball back to the Wildcat offense on the 28- yard line with 4:14 left in the game.

Again the Wildcats drove straight down the field but stalled on the goal line. Facing a fourth and goal with less than three minutes remaining the Demon defense stopped Millry short of the goal forcing what would appear to be a game-winning goal line stand. But the problem was that the Demons had 12 men and the penalty gave the Wildcats a new life.

Jones made sure there was not going to be anymore Demon heroics when he powered his way into the end zone with 2:41 to go to give Millry their first lead of the game. The two-point conversion was good and the Wildcats had a 17-14 lead with less than two-minutes remaining in the contest.

McIntosh fumbled again on their ensuing possession to seal the Wildcat victory. With the win, Millry improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in region play.

They are now in the driver's seat for the Region 1 championship. The Demons fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the region with the loss.

Millry travels to Gilbertown hoping to knock off 2A Southern Choctaw in another rivalry game. McIntosh has the week off.
