Aggies squeak out 20-12 win in Selma
Jackson defense dominant in second half comeback for Aggies in key region win
By Chris Sherman SA Sports Writer

Jackson kicker John David Mitchell (above) sets up to kick off for the Aggies against Thomasville. Mitchell was the star in last year's Clarke County game as he booted the gamewinning field goal in the final seconds against the Bulldogs.
Jackson started off slow Friday night against Southside- Selma but responded with a big second half to pull out a 20-12 victory in Selma.

The win evened up the Aggies' record to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in region play.

"We were disappointed in the way the first half went. Coach Raymond and his players did a great job against us, doing some things we hadn't seen. Their players were really fired up. In the first half they were just a step quicker than us on both sides of the ball," Blackmon said.

Southside-Selma came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to 12-0 in the first quarter. The Aggies answered with 2:30 left in the half when Damion Bracey sprinted in from 2-yards out.

The score was possible because of a Broderick Washington to Will Stevenss 36- yard connection to the 2-yard line on the previous play.

The point after was no good and the Aggies carried a 12-6 deficit into the locker room.

"We went in at halftime and got our kids settled down. We came out and played very well in the second half. We dominated

the second half after they dominated the first half," Blackmon said.

Broderick Washington scampered 34 yards for a touchdown tie the game at 12-12 with 1:00 to go in the third quarter. John David Mitchell nailed the PAT to give the Aggies a 13-12 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Washington hooked up with fullback William Taylor on a swing pass that went 38 yards for a touchdown.

Mitchell again was perfect on the point after and the Aggies lead was up to 20-12 and remained that way the rest of the way.

This week, Jackson will step out of region play but not venture off too far as the Aggies will head up Highway 43 to tangle with the 3A Clarke County Bulldogs.

With losses to Leroy and Thomasville already on the books, the Aggies are looking for their first big win of the season.

"We are stepping out of region but it is not an easy game. I real impressed with the way they play. They are playing with a lot of confidence and have a real balanced offense. I like the way their quarterback is throwing the football. He runs the team real well. T

Then of course they have Kimbrough (Kenneth). We all know about him. He is one of the best I have ever coached against."

"They have big strong kids on both sides of the line of scrimmage. We can't let them line up and physically run over us.

" This is a big-time rivalry game. We don't have to say anything to our kids to get them ready for this one. It is just like the Leroy and Thomasville games. This is for bragging rights. They have lost two in a row and will be ready to play. This is the best team they have had in a long time," Blackmon added.
