Local businessmen developing RV parks
By Evan Carden SA Editor

Andy Webb of Calvert is developing the Bates Creek RV Park which is planned to eventually have 60 spaces.
Several local businessmen are developing RV parks in both Clarke and Washington counties in anticipation of the influx of construction workers expected during the construction of the ThyssenKrupp steel plant.

Andy Webb of Calvert recently began clearing property in the Cricket Hill area of Washington County for a park that will eventually have up to 60 hookups. "We'll start out with about 31 spaces then add more as needed," he said.

Webb said he expects to open the Bates Creek RV Park sometime in November.

Dick Postma of Jackson is building two RV parks, one on property adjacent to the BP service station in Wagarville and the other behind his used car lot, Town and Country Auto, in Jackson.

The Wagarville park will have 60 spaces and the Jackson park, which will be called "Town and Country RV," will have 17 spots. The Jackson park is expected to open around Oct. 15 and the Wagarville park will open around the first of January, according to Postma.

Both men said they are building the parks mainly because of the anticipated large number of construction workers who will come to construct the steel plant. "There's also a lot of other construction projects going on in Jackson and the surrounding areas," said Postma. "Those people don't have anywhere to stay. That's what I'm going to offer."

Jackson currently has two RV Parks on property owned by the city at Parker Lake and Kendall Lake. Another park located in St. Stephens currently has 25 hookups. Plans are to add 26 additional spaces there. Another park is being developed at the old Wagarville rest area on Highway 43.
