Local girls compete in Pre-Teen America
Three local girls (L-R), Hali-Ana Harvey, Lexy Harvey and McKenzie Donald recently competed in the Pre-Teen Alabama Scholarship and Recognition Program at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham. Hali-Ana and Lexy are the daughters of Tammye and Chris Harvey. They attend Chatom Elementary School. McKenzie is the daughter of Karen and Dr. Steve Donald of Chatom and attends Jackson Academy. The three girls competed for more than $5,000 in educational bonds, prizes and awards. They were also vying for the opportunity to represent Alabama in the national competition in July 2008. Hali-Ana was in the top 10 in the Junior Division. She was also third runner-up in the talent category. Lexy was first runner-up in the talent category, second runner-up in the speech category and fourth runner-up in the overall Pre-Teen Alabama Senior Division. McKenzie won first runner-up in the speech category, was the overall winner in the academic category and first runner-up in the Pre-Teen Alabama Senior Division. She and Lexy will compete for $25,000 in prizes at the national competition next summer. All the girls won educational bonds, trophies and medallions.
