Lending a helping hand to clean up
Washington County's Junior Girl Scout Troop 473 participated in the "Coastal Clean-up" which took place on Saturday, Sept. 15. Troop 473 went to Dauphin Island to help out. The assignment was to pick up anything and everything that would not decompose. This included cigarette butts, drink bottles and cans, plastic objects, large chunks of metal and food wrappers. The girls picked up trash along the beach and road near the Estuarium and Fort Gaines. Several bags of trash were picked up over the course of the day. This was work for them, but it was worthwhile. They learned the importance of keeping the coastal areas clean.
