Can the Aggies find a way to win?

Can you believe we are already heading into week four of the football season?

It seems like just last week the Aggies and Bears were duking it out over at Palmer Stadium in the Battle of the Tombigbee.

With three weeks in the books, some teams have stood out while others are trying to figure out what works.

The McIntosh Demons may be the most surprising team of the '07 season so far. Larry Boykin's squad sits at 2-1 and 2- 0 in Region 1 of 1A.

The Demons will head over to Wildcat Hill to take on the undefeated Millry Wildcats Friday night.

Millry has been impressive in the early going with sophomore quarterback Dylan Whitsett thriving in the new look Teddy Taylor offense. Who knew Coach Taylor knew how to throw the football?

The Leroy Bears are undefeated at 3-0 and that is about as surprising as an O.J. Simpson run in with the law.

Leroy is heading into a fourgame gauntlet with road games against Georgiana, Sweet Water and Southern Choctaw with a home game against the rising Flomaton Hurricanes mixed in the fray.

The Bears have their work cut out to remain unscathed through those games.

The most important of the four will be when the Hurricanes blow into Palmer Stadium on Oct. 5 with star running back Tony Ellis leading the way.

The winner of this game will have a big say in who wins the region championship.

Who would have thought Jackson would be 1-2 after three games?

The Aggies have their strongest team in years but have two gut-wrenching losses to rivals Leroy and Thomasville.

If it makes you feel any better, both those teams look like the front-runner in their respective classes.

Now I know I picked the Aggies to knock off the Tigers by two scores but that was before I had seen Coach Jack Hankins' team in person.

Those guys are fast!

How Sweet Water beat them is a puzzle I have yet to figure out. But I might soon know the answer to that when I head over to Nolan Atkins Stadium to watch the Bulldogs tangle with the Bears in Week 5.

Back to the Aggies. Jackson seems to be searching for an identity on offense. The running game has been hit and miss while the passing game has not developed.

If the Aggies are to compete for a championship this season, those issues must be addressed. Jackson has the talent, but can they find a way to win?

So after four weeks of football we figured out a lot about some of our local teams but obviously still have a lot to learn in the coming weeks about others.
