Let's all do our part to help clean up This coming week is Fall Litter Awareness Week in Clarke County. The effort was planned and coordinated by Clarke County Citizens Against Litter (CCCAL), an organization of concerned county residents whose goal is to stop the senseless trashing of our county roads. As pointed out by the group's chairperson Patricia DuBose, educating children about littering is the key to stopping it, or at least making it an almost non-existent problem. The ultimate goal of the CCCAL is to be able to dissolve because of not being needed any longer. It's sad to say, but we will probably never see that happen in our lifetimes. Litterbugs seem to be everywhere, tossing their trash out automobile windows without giving a second thought to making our roadsides look horrible. The real trashiness can be seen right after county mowers have cut the grass along county roads. The amount of litter revealed looks worse than the tall grass. Those who litter and dump trash illegally should be ashamed. We appeal again to all guilty parties to think twice before committing this most preventable crime. Keep your garbage in your vehicle and put it in a trash container when you stop at the next service station or at home. We, who care about the appearance of our county, state and country, don't want to see it!
This week, all citizens are asked to pick up around their homes, businesses and schools to help make Clarke County the most beautiful and litter free county in the state. But, don't let it stop there. Let's work diligently to keep it that way.
