JA takes first in Sumter tournament

The Jackson Academy Eagles are off to a hot start in '07 with a 6-3 record and a recent tournament championship on the resume.

JA traveled to Mobile to take part in the Elite Eight Tournament at Cottage Hill Academy on Aug. 25.

In the first match, the Eagles defeated Kingwood 17-25, 25- 20 and 15-13.

Lee Scott handed the Lady Eagles their first loss of the season in the second match 25- 21, 26-28 and 10-15.

Evin Bowling was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Eagles traveled back to Mobile on Aug. 28 to take on the top ranked Warriors of Cottage Hill. The team lost 23- 25, 13-25 and 13-25.

JA played their first home game against Monroe Academy on Aug. 30 and prevailed with victory 25-10, 25-6 and 25-9.

MVP Evin Bowling
Evin Bowling had 4 aces and 7 kills. Maggie Bowling had 5 aces and 2 kills. Sydney Thomas and Kayla Lowery each had 2 aces and 2 kills respectively.

The Eagles fell to Faith in Mobile in a tough match on Sept. 4. The score was 22-25, 22-25 and 24-26.

Carley Gates had 4 kills and 12 assists to lead the team. Evin Bowling had 11 assists and Lowery had 14 assists.

JA took part in the Sumter Tournament on Sept. 8 in Sumter.

In the first match, the Eagles defeated Tuscaloosa Academy 25-11 and 25-16. Sydney Thomas, Carley Gates and Maggie Bowling each had 10 assist. Sydney Thomas also had 3 digs as did Lowery. Amy Thomas had 3 kills.

In the second round of the tournament the Eagles knocked off Morgan Academy 25-14 and 25-13. Amy Thomas had 4 aces. Evan Bowling had 4 kills and Gates had 3 kills.

The Eagles took on host Sumter Academy in the third match and won 25-17, 22-25 and 15-10. Evan Bowling had 3 aces and 3 kills. Amy Thomas had 5 kills. Sydney Thomas had 3 aces, 4 digs and 3 kills. Lowery had 3 digs and 4 kills.

In the championship game, the Eagles knocked off Tuscaloosa Academy again 25- 18 and 25-19.

Evin Bowling had 4 aces, 2 digs and 2 kills. Sydney Thomas had 2 aces and 2 kills. Lowery had 5 digs and 5 kills while Maggie Bowling had 10 assist.

Sydney Thomas and Kayla Lowery were selected to the All-Tournament team. Evin Bowling was selected as the tournament's MVP.
