WCHS dominates Mobile Christian 27-7
The Bulldogs forced fiveturnovers, three interceptions and two fumbles, that led to 20 of their 27 points. After a 30-minute lightning delay, the game got under way with the Bulldogs receiving the ball. Kez Cooper took the opening kick down to the Leopard 38-yard line to put the Bulldogs in great field position to start the game off. The offense drove the ball down the field on the ground, giving the ball to their two workhorse backs, Jarvis Abston and LaVance Williams picking up two first downs. On third-and-goal from the 8 quarterback Drake Warr found Donte Turner for the touchdown. Maurice Leverett added the extra point and the Bulldogs had an early 7 - 0 lead with 9:38 remaining in the first quarter. Neither team could find the end zone for the remainder of the first half as the two defenses took control of the game. On Mobile Christian's second posession of the second half, Kez Cooper picked off an errant pass to give the Bulldog offense the ball on the Mobile Christian 35. Aided by a pass interference call, Washington County scored four plays later on Jarvis Abston's 1-yard run. Leverett's PAT brought the score to 14 - 0 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Bulldog defense struck again in the fourth quarter as Scotty Smith recovered a fumble on the Mobile Christian 10- yard line. Two plays later, LaVance Williams scored from 2 yards out to incrase the lead to 21 - 0 with 8:09 to play. The final Bulldog score came on Daniel Bowman's 63-yard interception return for a touchdown. The extra point was no good but the Bulldogs had a commanding 27 - 0 lead with 3:45 left in the game. The Leopards lone score of the night came on Christian Beasley's 15-yard scamper with 1:33 remaining for the final score of 27 - 7. The Bulldogs were led on offense by Jarvis Abston who had 20 carries for 100 yards. Defensively the Dawgs were led by Daniel Bowman who had a pick 6 and a fumble recovery.
Washington County travels to Butler to take on the Tigers in a region match-up this Friday at 7 p.m.
