Aggies ready for Thomasville
Jackson wasted no time in pushing around the Tigers as the Aggies' Broderick Washington hit Corey Besteda for a 40-yard touchdown pass on the game's second play from scrimmage. John David Mitchell added the point after to give the Aggies a 7- 0 lead before the home crowd had time to find their seats. "We were real pleased with the way our football team handled the loss to Leroy. We realized this was our first region game and we put everything behind us," Coach John Blackmon said. The Aggie defense held the Tigers to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession, forcing a punt on fourth down. Sophomore Damien Bracy fielded the punt and returned it 40 yards for another Jackson touchdown. Mitchell nailed the extra point to extend the Aggie lead to 14-0. Jackson added two more scores in the first quarter on a 7-yard quarterback sneak by Washington and a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by safety Richard Howard to give the Aggies a 28-0 lead after one. Fullback Tony Ivory added a 7- yard touchdown with time running out in the half to give the Aggies a 35-0 lead at the half. "Anytime you can go on the road and jump out early it is big," Blackmon added. In the third quarter defensive lineman Shontavious Sims sacked the MCHS quarterback forcing a fumble that was recovered by Carl Darrington. Bracey scored from 35 yards out on the Aggies first offensive play following the fumble to extend the Aggie lead to 41-0. Monroe Co. added two late scores against the Jackson reserves. Washington completed 4-10 passes for 75 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Besteda hauled in three receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown. Kenneth Harbuck led the Aggie defense with 10 tackles and two sacks. Gabriel Mass added eight tackles while Brad Chancey had nine. Next up for Jackson (1-1, 1-0) is Clarke County rival Thomasville (1-1,1-0) in a huge region game Friday night at Legion Field. The winner of this game sits in the driver's seat for the region championship.
"This is an important game because it is the next one. We all know Thomasville is the favorite in the region. If we win this football game we are 2-0 and if we lose we are 1-1. If we win this game it will be a big region win," Blackmon said
