Bettis accepted in People to People Darnell Bettis, son of former Jackson residents Barbara and Danny Bettis, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Bettis was nominated and accepted, based on scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential. He will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C., March 17-23, 2008 to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States' most prominent monuments and institutions. Participants will also take part in in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first-hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus and foster change.
Bettis is a sixth grade student attending Emerson School in Los Angeles, Calif. He is the grandson of Jackson resident Mary Lee Bettis and the late Jessie Bettis.
