WashCo UW kickoff tonight in Chatom United Way of Southwest Alabama officially launched the annual fall fund-raising campaign Sept. 6 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center in downtown Mobile. Kimberly-Clark was the lead sponsor of the event with assistance from AT&T and Tate & Lyle. Approximately 450 people were in attendance. The organization announced a community wide goal of $5,800,078. Washington County will kick off its campaign tonight (Thursday) from 6-9 p.m. at the Chatom Community Center, with its "A Night United" program. Those who attend will learn how important their financial support is to Washington County United Way agencies, as well as the impact of those agencies on the entire county. Plenty of food, fun, games and entertainment are on tap for the evening. The event will be topped off by a fireworks display. The United Way of Southwest Alabama's fall campaign will provide critical funding that will enable the 58 partner agencies that United Way supports to help people who will need it most in the coming year. The fund-raising effort also helps to sustain community initiatives such as United Way 2-1-1, a three-digit, free phone number that connects people in need with health and human services. "We continue to seek ways to help more people through the expansion and strengthening of services, excellent fiscal stewardship and community outreach", said Angelo Miller, executive director of United Way of Southwest Alabama. "Each year, United Way conducts this campaign to help more than 125,000 local people," said Gigi Armbrecht, United Way of Southwest Alabama's board chair. "I appreciate all that you are doing to make our community and our United Way be the best that it can be." "The true success of the United Way campaign comes from the hundreds of area companies in southwest Alabama that will conduct campaigns and the thousands of individuals who will give over the coming weeks," said Sidney King, United Way's 2007 Campaign Chair. "I know we can achieve our goal and with your help we will make this 2007 campaign a great success."
