Last part of school tax renewed

With only 1,454 people turning out to vote on the renewal of a 3 mill ad valorem tax, which goes to public schools, the measure was approved, by a margin of 1,260 to 194.

The tax was the last part of 7 mills that needed to be renewed for Washington County schools to continue to receive the funds needed for operation. The other 4 mills were renewed during an election earlier this year.

Schools will now continue to receive the 12 mills total of ad valorem taxes from the county for the next 25 years. The remaining 5 mills did not require renewal.
