Jackson Middle School eighth grade students Justin Abston and Derrick Moore love rapping and have used their talent to show everyone the pride they have for the Aggies.

Justin is the son of Anissa and Joe Abston and Derrick is the son of Latwanda and Derrick Moore.

The two have written a song titled "Crank Dem" for the junior varsity football team and performed it for the first time in front of a large audience at Monday's pep rally for the game against Leroy.

"They are trying to do their part in giving the team a boost," said Abston's mother, Anissa.

She said Justin has enjoyed rapping for several years and has written a number of songs. "He is a very gifted writer and artist," she said. "He sent a drawing to an art school and scored an 85, which is good by their standards."

Justin's dad, Joe, said his son, who is an honor student, has always been interested in sports and thought the song would be a way to get others to show their school spirit as well. "It's a positive song, as are all the others he has written," he said. "The teachers loved it and had the idea for the two friends to perform it during the pep rally."

While Abston writes most of the lyrics, his partner is the musician. Moore plays drums in the school band and comes up with the instrumental portions for each song.

"We just think it's great that they are using their talents to express themselves in a positive way," said Mrs. Abston. "We encourage Justin to do what he loves to do and he seems to have a real talent for this."

The song has even been played on one of the local radio stations. "We are trying to get them some exposure, because you never know, the next big rap star could come from right here in Jackson," said Mr. Abston. "We want him (Justin) to know that he can do whatever he sets his mind to do. You hear about so much bad stuff going on with young people today, it's good to see something positive like
