Three members of the same family were injured, Friday, Sept. 7, when their automobile was struck from behind by another vehicle just north of the Tombigbee River Bridge in Jackson.

According to Jackson Police reports, Stephanie Givens Painter, 26, Dennis Painter Jr., 22, and Trishtyn Painter, 2 months, all of St. Stephens, sustained injuries in the crash, which occurred around 6:50 p.m.

Police Chief Charles Burge said Stephanie Painter was the driver of a 2004 Kia that was having mechanical problems and driving slowly in the right hand lane of U.S. Highway 43 South with the emergency flashers on. According to the report, Painter's vehicle was struck in the rear, near the J.W. Andrews Highway intersection, by a 2001 Ford F-15 pickup driven by John Thomas Stokes, 26, of Jackson, who was also headed south in the right hand lane.

Burge said Dennis Painter Jr. was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extracted by members of the Jackson Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. He and Stephanie Painter were transported by JETS ambulance to Jackson Medical Center (JMC) for treatment.

Trishtyn Painter was transported to JMC by Jackson Police and transferred by ambulance to the University of South Alabama Women and Children's Hospital. She was released Saturday afternoon.
