Spiritual Beliefs
ye that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest."
When Jesus was on earth He knew that many people were burdened down with the cares of life. He also could look down through time and see that people always would carry heavy burdens... burdens of fear, loneliness, bitterness, sorrow, guilt and sin. From a heart of compassion for people He gave a simple invitation, "Come to me and I will give you rest." The Amplified version says "I will ease and relieve
and refresh your souls."
We don't find the rest in the act
of coming, but we find the rest in the One that we go to. Our coming to Him simply says that we put our trust in Him. Rest comes as we give our burdens to the Rest-Giver. I'm thankful today that there is no limit on the times we can go to Him...He is always available. There is no limit to the size of the burden that we give to Him...He is enough to meet every need.
You may have a smile on your face today, but underneath the smile is a burden almost too heavy to bear. You don't have to carry it, you can accept His invitation to "come" and He will keep His Word and "give you rest."
