Area Obituaries James Austin Crews Jr. James Austin Crews Jr., 52, a native of Jacksonville, Fla. and a resident of Tibbie, died at an area hospital Aug. 7, 2007. He was a guard with the Mississippi State Penal System and a member of the Tibbie Baptist Church. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Williams Crews of Tibbie. Graveside services were Aug. 10 at Gordy Cemetery in Tibbie under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom. Audrey June Lloyd Audrey June Lloyd, died Aug. 14, 2007 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in Grove Hill at the age of 88. A native of Clarke County and a resident of Grove Hill, she retired as a seamstress from Vanity Fair Mills and was a member of Horeb Baptist Church in Whatley. Survivors include two sisters, Irma Williams of Whatley and Ella Driskell of Jackson; and a niece, Apsie Harper of Albany, Ga. Funeral services were Aug. 15 at Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. Interment was at Hill Cemetery in Whatley. Sylvia Yvette French Hunt Sylvia Yvette French Hunt of Jackson, 41, died Aug. 2, 2007 at Providence Hospital in Mobile. She was a member of Carlton AOH Church of Carlton and served as a deaconess and on the Mother Board. She is survived by her husband, Mike Hunt of Jackson; a sister, Dorothy French of Jackson; one brother, Charles (Peggy) Stewart of Detroit, Mich; stepmother, Carolyn French of Jackson; one stepsister, Katrina (Jermaine) Hill of Panama City, Fla.; five stepbrothers, Richard (Velma) Howard of Alma, the Rev. Norman (Sandra) Howard of McIntosh, Kenny and Herman Howard, both of Panama City, Fla. and Fredrick (Michelle) Howard of Jackson; mother-inlaw, Pearlie Hunt of Fairhope; three aunts, Leslie Hunter of Detroit, Mildred Johnson of Auburn Hill, Mich. and Carrie (Joseph) Clemons of Carlton. Funeral services were Aug. 8 at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson with the Rev. D.W. Moore officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery of Carlton, Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing. Salia Shanice Webb Salia Shanice Webb, infant daughter of Paula L. Campbell and Solomon Webb, both of Jackson, died Aug. 10, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. She was 8 months old. Survivors include her parents and two brothers, Zeldric Campbell and Keenen Webb, both of Jackson; grandparents, Mary and Cleveland Gamble, Deloris and Leonard Beck and Margaret and Eddie Purifoy, all of Jackson and Pearline Ervin King of Leroy; great-grandmother, Laura Garraway of Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Aug. 15 at Star of Zion A.M.E. Zion Church of Jackson, directed by Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson. Lillie Bell Williams Lillie Bell Williams, 61, a native of Gainestown, died Aug. 8, 2007 at Jackson Medical Center. A homemaker, she was also a member of Gainestown AOH Church of Gainestown where she served on the Mother Board. She is survived by her husband, Frank Williams Sr. of Gainestown; 10 daughters, Isabella (Oscar) Washington, Lillie (Walter) Jackson, Carolyn (Fred) Jones, Janice (Kennis) Robinson, Brenda (Tony) Ivory, Lenora Chapman and Priscilla (Carl) Hayes, all of Gainestown, Shirley (Tyrone) West of Walker Springs, Stephanie (Anthony) Brown of Mobile and Gladys Williams of Tuscaloosa; six sons, Frank (Latitia) Williams Jr. of Whatley, Edward (Jennifer) Williams, Earnest (Jennifer) Williams and Kelvin Williams, all of Gainestown, Adrian Williams and Antonio Williams, both of Birmingham; two sisters, Daisy Hunt of Gainestown and Ruthie Pritchett of Walker Springs; a brother, Bobby Kemp of Mobile; 35 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Aug. 11 at Gainestown AOH Church with interment in the church cemetery. Overseer Heary Rodgers, pastor and elder Lucille Henry officiated. Arrangements were directed by Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson. Leigh Van Hoose Sr. Leigh Van Hoose Sr. died Aug. 8, 2007 at Jackson Health Care in Jackson, at the age of 89. He was a WWII veteran and worked as an operator at International Paper for more than 30 years. He is survived by a son, Leigh (Sue) Van Hoose Jr. of Slidell, La.; two daughters, Martha (Bill) Rice of Natchez, Miss. and Virginia (Marc) Kyzar of Jackson; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted Aug. 11 at Hooks Cemetery in Sunflower with the Rev. Jim DuFriend officiating. Pallbearers were Van Sims, Russ Sims, Paul Van Hoose, Mike Rice, Earl Strong, Gene Harrell III, Gene Harrell IV and Joe Harrell. St. Stephens Funeral Home of St. Stephens directed. Betsy Jo Ott Betsy Jo Ott, 73, of Thomasville, died Aug. 6, 2007 at her home. She was a former secretary and real estate agent with Pope's Real Estate in Thomasville and a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Thomasville. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Homer Parker and sister, Juliet Parker. She is survived by her husband, Vester C. Ott of Thomasville; mother, Emma Alston Parker of Thomasville; aunt, Ludie Alston Stone of Jackson; and cousin, Cecelia Adams of St. Stephens. Funeral services were at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, Aug. 8, with the Revs. James Young, Fred Wiley and Charlie Andrews officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia. Pallbearers were Jeremy Ogle, Jonathan Ogle, Joseph Ogle, Josh Alford, Mitch Aitken and Todd Horton. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Ogle, Jerry Ogle, Tony Ogle, Lyn Ott, Jackie Soper, Rusty Gates, Jeff Gibson, Jonathan Adams and Will Adams.
