      The Pine City Rodeo was Aug. 3-4 at the Jackson Academy Rodeo Arena. Local fans battled the sweltering heat to catch a glimpse of the modern day cowboys in action. A rodeo contestant (above) tries to hold on during one of the weekend's events.

UA 'Fan Day' shows glimpse of Saban and local stars
      The University of Alabama football team held its annual "Fan Day" Sunday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium with more than 9,000 Crimson Tide fans attending the event. The football team held a twohour practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium and then signed autographs for 45 minutes.

Leroy Bears varsity cheerleaders named 'Cheer Champions'
      The Leroy High School varsity cheerleaders participated in the UCA summer camp at the University of Alabama June 19- 22. They received superior ribbons in all categories and were named Cheer Champions. That honor earned them an invitation to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla. in January.

Tucker catches big fish
      Chipper Tucker caught his first largemouth bass while fishing with his uncle J.R. Morgan and grandfather James Morgan of Jackson. The fish weighed 6 pounds. Chipper released the fish unharmed.
