Slayton - Powell honored with engagement luau An engagement luau honoring Jenilee Slayton and Dru Powell was an event of Saturday, July 28, 2007. Hosted by the parents of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Slayton and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Powell, the engagement celebration was at the Slayton home. Guests were greeted with silk leis upon arrival. The Hawaiian inspired menu was spread over two tables arranged in the back patio area decorated with arrangements of gerbera daisies. The menu included fruit, vegetables, various dips, cole slaw, baked beans, chicken salad croissants, cheese ball, cheese ring and cheese tiers. Hawaiian-style roasted pig, complimented by slices of lemons, oranges and cherries with homemade barbecue sauce, was prepared by the prospective groom's grandfather, Jim Overstreet. Desserts included chocolate dirt cake, strawberry delight and banana pudding.
About 70 guests were entertained by Spencer Ross and his band. The couple took this opportunity to thank the wedding party and their families. The couple has chosen May 31, 2008 as their wedding date.
