Jackson to compete for national title

Canden Bliss Jackson, the reigning "Miss Alabama Teen USA - 2007", will compete for the national title, "Miss Teen USA" on Aug. 24 in Pasadena, Calif. The pagent will be aired on the NBC television network at 7 p.m.

The 17-year-old senior at Bayside Academy is the daughter of Donna and Steve Jackson of Silverhill, the granddaughter of Pauline and Dalton Jackson of Chatom and Charlotte Nettles of Silverhill and the late David Nettles.

She was recently invited by Randy DAvis of Fairhope to attend a legislative session of the House of Representatives in Montgomery. The legislature drafted, signed and read a proclamation in her honor voicing support and pride in her accomplishments and service to her state. At the close of the session she had lunch with several legislators including Davis and Rep. Marc Keahey of Washington County.

She participated in a Christian evangelistic fellowship conference at Huntingdon College; attended the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Space Camp and the inaugural Hall of Fame inductions at the Aerospace Center in Huntsville and was introduced to Star Trek's "Captain Kirk" William Shatner, who emceed the inductee program.

Jackson also participated in the opening ceremonies of the U.S. Sports Festival in Birmingham where she recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Caden will relinquish her Miss Alabama Teen USA crown in October. She will leave Aug. 12 for preliminaries to the Miss Teen USA pageant in Pasadena.

She was honored by her parents at a party July 21 at the Lake Forest Yacht Club.
