Jackson Police were called to the parking lot of The South Alabamian office on Coffeeville Road, Tuesday, shortly before 9 a.m., after a Grove Hill man entered the newspaper office to call and report he had been shot at on U.S. Highway 43.

Officers Ben Marshall and Arvis Slack responded to the scene, where they met with Howard Rosenbalm, 77, and observed what appeared to be bullet holes in his 1965 Chevrolet pickup.

Rosenbalm said he was traveling south on U.S. 43 in the right hand lane, when a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup came up beside him near the Antioch area. He claimed the passenger, whom he described as a large white man with long hair wearing a hunting cap, pointed a pistol in his direction and began firing. "When I saw the gun, I slammed on the brakes just in time for the first shot to hit the door frame."

He said a subsequent shot hit the windshield and others grazed the camper shell on his pickup.

Jackson officers contacted the Clarke County Sheriff's Department who directed Rosenbalm to go to the sheriff's office in Grove Hill and file a complaint. As of Wednesday's deadline no report had been filed.
