Churches in need of revival
Spiritual Beliefs
By Rev. Don Rushing Forest Avenue Baptist Church

Many negative charges may be brought against the church. We often practice shallow, superficial Christianity. The term hypocritical is biting but too true.

Most members have unbent knees and unbowed hearts. Believers determine their own destiny instead of seeking God's will. Obligations in the spiritual realm are the lowest rung on the ladder. We will be in church if there are no family reunions, ball games, dance lessons, etc., etc.

The activities of typical congregations make as much sense as rearranging the deck furniture on the Titanic. The plain truth is: church members are asleep, luke warm, at ease, uncommitted and prayerless to name a few things that are wrong.

As we look closely at the modern church we are compelled to say "Jesus, died for this?" The holy Trinity surely grieves over the current state of Christ's bride.

Obviously, the great need is REVIVAL. Our churches need a heaven sent Holy Ghost movement. Would to God that each and every Christian would implore the true and living Lord to open the windows of heaven and pour out the Spirit upon us.

Pray that the Lord may grant us true humility, sincere repentance and joyful restoration to the rightful place of God's elect. Then may we sound forth praise, thanksgiving and worship to Jesus. We will have something worth offering the confused, hurting and lost outsiders.
