The Community Bankers Association of Alabama announces the election of Grady L. Bedwell of Jackson to the position of vice chairman of its board of directors.

As chairman and CEO of the Merchants Bank located in Clarke and Mobile counties, Bedwell brings to the position more than 40 years of community banking experience.

"Having seasoned community bankers like Grady Bedwell serve our association is paramount to the collective success we anticipate," said Scott E. Latham, president and CEO of CBAA.

Bedwell holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and economics with a minor in accounting from the University of Mobile. He is also a graduate of the Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University.

He is active in the community, serving as chairman of the Industrial Board of Clarke County and as vice chairman of the Industrial Board for the city of Jackson.

Bedwell is a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson. He and his wife of 36 years, Cheryl, have three daughters, Lesley Lightcap, Brooke Smith and Elizabeth Bailey. They have one grandson, Jackson Brent Smith.

Founded in 1986, the Community Bankers Association of Alabama is the only statewide trade association which exclusively represents community banks. CBAA consists of more than 130 banks with combined assets totaling almost $29 billion. CBAA's member banks employ nearly 7,000 individuals in more than 500 locations across Alabama.
