Leroy VFD gets donation
      Assistant Chief Rodger Dean of the Leroy Volunteer Fire Department received a $500 donation for the department from Wal-Mart Assistant Manager Jennifer Baxter. Volunteer firefighter Eugenia Collins (Right) was present for the event.

Tip leads to Jackson drug bust by deputies
      The Clarke County Sheriff's Office of Criminal Investigations received a tip that a package containing narcotics was being delivered to a residence at 634 Vine Street in Jackson. An investigation was begun, and a search warrant was executed on the residence.

      Merchants Bank opened a new bank office in Mobile Friday, June 29. This is the bank's fifth location, its first outside of Clarke County. The temporary office is located at 877 Hillcrest Road in the Hillcrest Plaza in West Mobile.

County asked to raise water rates
