No more used car sales to be allowed in parking lots Individuals wanting to sell their vehicles within the city limits of Jackson will no longer be able to do it in parking lots following the adoption of a new ordinance during Tuesday's city council meeting. The council voted to approve Ordinance No. 06-26-07, which prohibits the private sales of motor vehicles unless it is on the owners' personal property. Those convicted of violating the ordinance will be subject to fines between $100 and $500. The ordinance states, "Except for the owner of a private motor vehicle offering his own vehicle for sale on his own private property, no person shall offer for sale a motor vehicle of any kind, whether attended or not, upon any private property within the city of Jackson not properly zoned and licensed for the sale of motor vehicles." It also authorizes the Jackson Police Department to have such vehicles found to be in violation of the ordinance removed and stored at an authorized location at the owner's expense. The new ordinance became effective immediately upon its adoption by the council. Mayor Long asked that the police department give warning tickets for a short period of time until the public becomes fully aware of the new law. Other actions The council also took action on the following items: *Approved a motion to enter into an agreement with the firm of Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood for a development plan for the new industrial park on Highway 177. *Approved contributing the city's $4,500 share of the cost for the development of a marketing plan for the county. *A motion to apply for a $1.5 million Go-Zone bond issue was approved. *The council voted to spend $10,000 for the development of a marketing plan for the city of Jackson.
*A portion of Elm Street near the assisted living facility will be vacated by the city.
