Area players honored
Record breaking season for Jackson and Leroy baseball
By Chris Sherman SA Sports Writer

Jon Luke Jacobs Jackson High School ASWA 4A Pitcher of the Year
Our area dominated this season on the baseball diamond. The Leroy Bears won the 2A state championship with an impressive 37-7 record. The 37 victories fell one game short of the 2006 Bear squad that produced 38 victories.

The Jackson Aggies did set a school record with 27 victories to just 11 losses outdoing the 1989 Aggie's 23 wins. Jackson fell short of making it to the state championship game due to a fluke triple play against Trinity in the third round of the AHSAA playoffs. It was still a great season for the Aggies with three players heading to the next level including one to Alabama and Auburn.

Here is a rundown of the players that either made All-State or are headed to college to play ball.

Kent Meyer is verbally committed to the University of Alabama. He batted .525 with 11 homeruns and 27 RBIs as a junior for the Aggies. Meyer was a First Team All-State selection by the ASWA; member of the Mobile Press Register's All- Region Team; Aggie Baseball 2007 MVP and 2007 Triple Crown Award winner. He was chosen by the San Diego Padres to participate in the 2007 East Coast professional baseball showcase that will be held in Lakeland, Fla. in July.
