Area players honored
The Jackson Aggies did set a school record with 27 victories to just 11 losses outdoing the 1989 Aggie's 23 wins. Jackson fell short of making it to the state championship game due to a fluke triple play against Trinity in the third round of the AHSAA playoffs. It was still a great season for the Aggies with three players heading to the next level including one to Alabama and Auburn. Here is a rundown of the players that either made All-State or are headed to college to play ball. Kent Meyer is verbally committed to the University of Alabama. He batted .525 with 11 homeruns and 27 RBIs as a junior for the Aggies. Meyer was a First Team All-State selection by the ASWA; member of the Mobile Press Register's All- Region Team; Aggie Baseball 2007 MVP and 2007 Triple Crown Award winner. He was chosen by the San Diego Padres to participate in the 2007 East Coast professional baseball showcase that will be held in Lakeland, Fla. in July.
Aggie superstar Jon Luke Jacobs signed with the Auburn Tigers on a full athletic scholarship. He batted .359. He was the Aggies ace on the mound with 83 innings pitched, gave up only 19 earned runs, 29 BB, had 142K, 9-3 record and a 1.60 ERA (in the playoffs he was 2-1 record in 17IP with 28K and 0.00 ERA.) He was the ASWA4A Pitcher of the Year; member of the Mobile Press Register's All- Region Team, Birmingham News Player of the Week in March and on the ASWA Super 10 Team.
Aggie Todd Waller batted .379 with 22 stolen bases. He was selected Honorable Mention All- State by the ASWA. He also took part in the East West All-Star game. Brandon Jones from Leroy was an ASWA First Team All- State selection and on the East West All-Star team. He batted .355 with three homeruns, 32 RBIs, 50 hits and 42 runs scored. He was 11-2 on the mound with a 3.21 ERA. Aggie Sam Griffin batted .403 with two homeruns and 23 RBIs. He was 4-1 on the mound with one save in 47 innings of work. He signed a baseball scholarship with Huntingdon College in Montgomery. Leroy's Brittian Schultz signed with Alabama Southern. He batted .383 with four homeruns, 44 hits and 43 RBIs. The ASWA and the B-Ham News selected the Bear's Clint Moseley as Honorable Mention. Moseley batted .444 with two homeruns and 43 RBIs. He was 6-3 on the mound.
