Kids 'Get a Clue' at summer reading program in WashCo
The library is a busy place and through the leadership of Library Director, Jessica Ross, with the assistance of the library staff and community volunteers, children are listening to stories and participating in exciting activities. As a special treat, they are visited by a different guest each day, who exhibits or demonstrates a skill or expertise in some field. On Thursday, June 14, attendees heard warnings about the pitfalls of drugs from two agents of the Drug Task Force, Brad Warrick and Lem Dubose. They saw photos of what using meth does to the teeth; and Warrick spoke of other ill effects to one's health. There was a great deal of interaction as the children got to ask questions. Then came the really exciting part of the day: Thursday's guest was Cliff, the drugsniffing dog. Cliff demonstrated his expertise in sniffing-out a small bag of drugs inside the library. Then Cliff was taken outside where he showed how he "apprehends" a drug suspect at the command of agent Warrick. The children squealed with delight.
