Tuition not marked for increase at Alabama community colleges

The Alabama College System, which includes the state community and technical colleges and Athens State University, will not increase tuition this year. Tuition and required fees will remain at $90 per credit hour. Fees for a fulltime students are approximately 51 percent of the average fouryear institutions.

"Community colleges mean access to higher education. Families need options that make college affordable. We are committed to providing those options and opening doors for students," said Bradley Byrne, chancellor of the Alabama College System. "We are also appreciative for the support of the governor and Legislature as we plan for the upcoming fiscal year," he said.

The STARS agreement guarantees the transfer of credit from community colleges to four-year colleges. That guarantee and low tuition allows completion of the first two years of a bachelor's degree at about half the cost.
