I just wanted to take this space to introduce myself as the new sports writer for the South Alabamian. My name is Chris Sherman and my daughter Abbie and I are lifelong residents of Clarke County. The first few years of my life were spent at Jackson Middle School before graduating from Leroy High School in 1998. I attended college at Alabama and Shelton State and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Alabama.

I've been working as the sports writer for The Choctaw Advocate in Butler since November 2006. The Advocate was also owned by Jim Cox.

I am also a featured writer for ScoutSouth.com, part of the national Scout.com network covering south Alabama sports.

I will maintain that position and that knowledge will help me here in this new position. Not only will it benefit me personally, it will benefit all of our local players. I will be sure all of our local players get the proper exposure on a local and national level. Be assured, Clarke and Washington counties' schools are my top priority.

You will soon discover that covering sports is my passion. You will see me at many games this fall and spring as I diligently follow the schools I cover.

I look forward to offering the athletes and coaches of Clarke and Washington counties a forum for the recognition they deserve. Southwest Alabama has some of the best athletes in the state. The Alabamian wants to assure that they do not get overlooked.

I will make it my responsibility that all of our local schools get the fair and equal coverage they deserve.

In the next few weeks leading up to football season, I look forward to devoting my time to getting to know each and every one of you, coaches and players, in Clarke and Washington county. A lot of you I will probably already be familiar with but for the others I look forward to meeting you. Together we can make Clarke and Washington Counties great high schools stand out above all others in the state.

My goal is for a long relationship between myself and the people of Clarke and Washington counties. Feel free to stop by The South Alabamian and introduce yourself and know that I will always welcome your thoughts and contributions.
