South Alabamian takes Little League title

South Alabamian defeated Fire Department 16-3 Monday night at Charles W. Burge field to clinch first place in Little League Baseball action.

SA scored seven runs in the first inning to blow the game open. Cole Dunn led the game off with a single and scored when Matt Barton crushed a fastball over the wall for a two-run homer.

Tyler Smith was the game's leading hitter-going 4-4 with three doubles and a homerun for South Alabamian. Matt Barton was 2-3 with a walk and a tworun blast. Kahil Lang chipped in with a 2-3 performance while Cole Dunn, John Watkins, Tyler Bradley, Daniel Greer and Austin Pugh added singles for South Alabamian. Matt Barton picked up the win on the hill. Jansen Deas, Tavaris Kidd and Randy Bumpers collected hits for Fire Department.

The victory improved South Alabamian's record to 12-3 for the season and clinched the Little League championship with one game remaining on the schedule. SA team members are Kahlil Lang, Tyler Bradley, Daniel Greer, Cole Dunn, Daniel Mason, Daniel Dees, John Watkins, Austin Pugh, Tyler Smith, Matt Barton and coaches Ken Smith (head coach), Jerry Bradley and Kevin Dunn.
