'Yes' on Washington County school tax extension too

In addition to the statewide constitutional amendments, Washington County voters have an important local issue on their ballots Tuesday.

A longtime 12-mill property tax earmarked for the county's public schools is up for renewal. Voters last approved these taxes for a 30- year period in 1976.

These taxes are not new. They are essential to continued quality education efforts in Washington County.

With the new ThyssenKrupp steel mill locating on the county's southern edge, education will be more important than ever, not only for the future workforce that schools help train but because quality education facilities can help lure business and industry and new residents too.

Vote for the children's future and the county's future, vote "yes" to renewing the school tax in Washington County.
